Denture Repair Questions
Can I Glue Dentures?
You've probably heard it a million times, but there's nothing good when you glue your dentures. We know that some of you have probably been sifting through the Internet to find denture repair glue, or some kind of glue to repair dentures yourselves. If you do use glue, here's what to expect; some glues will melt your denture repair making your denture unwearable, while others the glue may mend but have an ugly color to it, some even a bright yellow appearance to the dried glue. If the glue you used did not melt your denture, then you'll be wearing a denture with the fear of embarrassment because you'll have that ugly gunk on your teeth every time you smile. Don't smile, and you'll be fine for the short term? We've had folks who have found out the hard way that using glue just doesn't work. Some glue may last a couple of weeks, and then break again. When it breaks again, you'll have to put even a thicker coat on the next time. Eventually you won't be able to glue anymore. Glues are poisonous, but don't take our word for it, just read the label. But perhaps you won't care until you get sick, even catch a terminal illness because you ate the poison from the glue breaking off in your mouth when you eat foods.
Should I use a Denture Repair Kit?
You can use anything you want to, but please read the label on the denture repair kit. You'll find printed: for temporary use only, seek a dentist as soon as possible. Low quality materials may or may not work. Some have said they have almost passed out from the fumes, while others said it worked temporarily for about a week. The downfall about this stuff is it may be difficult to get a professional denture repair because it can't be easily removed to find the original break.
The break in any denture must be well defined so that when you connect the pieces together, it fits back like a puzzle. Our dentists just won't guess on how your denture should go back together. Wrong position, it won't feel right or fit properly, then what, you can't wear it, you'll want a refund because it was not repaired correctly. So please use a professional denture repairs service before considering a denture repair kit.
Can I throw my denture out after I get a Emergency Denture? We advise you not to throw your denture away just because you got a new emergency denture. Emergency dentures are duplicate dentures that are the emergency denture is a copy of the same structure of your original denture. It is a new denture, new denture acrylic but the same structure is duplicated. So if you have very worn teeth, the duplicate denture will also have worn teeth.
What if I want new teeth on my Emergency Denture? This is possible, but the cost would be almost triple the cost of an emergency denture. Your worn dentures fit your mouth a certain way, if we added new teeth to the denture they would have to be the same height as the worn denture teeth. Anything higher and you would not be able to wear your emergency denture. The reason why the cost would be triple is because each tooth will have to be added to the emergency denture. One-by-One. The increased cost includes the cost of each tooth, and the time it takes to insert each tooth into the emergency denture. If you want a new denture, then we highly suggest you see a denture business for a new denture. Emergency dentures are made for backups; when your denture breaks again you'll have an emergency denture to wear. This means you'll have something to eat with, and speak with.
My denture is cracked but not yet broken?
This counts as a 1-break denture repair because the same process is used to fix broken dentures in this manner.
What kind of denture glue do you use?
The dentists do not use glue, but commercial grade denture acrylic. The commercial grade denture acrylic forms a strong bond between the areas of the broken denture making the repaired area stronger than the rest of the denture.
I heard older dentures hold flu causing bacteria?
Yes, older dentures hold any bacterial because they have microscopic holes in them. Where your denture broke, there are usually many more holes than in other areas of your denture, which helped your denture break more easily. The denture repair material used closes this gap making a strong bond. But the rest of your denture will continue to harbor the bacteria in its tiny holes. The holes are caused from the constant exposure to your mouth's hostile environment. There is nothing you can do to stop these holes from forming, except to get a new denture. All plastics and acrylic break down over time when exposed to hot and cold temperatures.
